Carmen I. Bigles is CEO of Coquí RadioPharmaceuticals, Corp. a company with the goal of establishing a medical radioisotope production facility in the U.S. As co-owner of Caribbean Radiation Oncology Center, Bigles learned that many patients were being misdiagnosed due to a global shortage of Mo-99. Bigles sought to learn more about the Mo-99 industry and ultimately decided to establish a domestic source of the isotope. Bigles earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Interamerican University in San Juan and subsequently her master’s degrees in architecture and suburban and town planning from the University of Miami.

With a prior MD, upon receiving his PhD in 1995, Yicheng Ni initiated and heads a Theragnostic Lab at KU Leuven, Belgium. Being currently titled with full professor and Bayer Lecture Chair, he has published over 200 SCI journal papers, book chapters and patents, trained numerous PhD students, served as editor or reviewer in academic journals, and received tens of honors including Herbert M Stauffer Award (1993) and Elliott Lasser Award (2009). His academic career has been marked with innovative, translational, cost-effective and longstanding research. OncoCiDia introduced here presents one of his multiple inventions.

Imaging and contrast media research

Dr Marc Griffiths is an Associate Dean within the Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences at the University of the West of England, Bristol and completed his Professional Doctorate in 2014. His Professional Doctorate evaluated the impact of the introduction of new hybrid imaging technology on the nuclear medicine workforce. He has published a number of papers in peer reviewed journals related to the development of the nuclear medicine workforce and associated factors, including mentorship, education and training competencies. Marc works closely with education commissioners and is involved in healthcare workforce planning and scenario modelling.

Biological imaging for radiation therapy planning and monitoring High precision radiation therapy

Chun Li, Ph.D. is a professor in the Department of Cancer Systems Imaging at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Li earned his doctorate in chemistry at Rutgers-The State University of New Jersey hn. His undergraduate degree was obtained from Peking University, Beijing, China. Research in Dr. Li’s laboratory is primarily focused on two areas: 1) Develop targeted imaging probes for noninvasive characterization of molecular events associated with tumor progression and regression. Multiple imaging modalities, including PET, SPETC, MRI and optical imaging are used to acquire complementary data with increased sensitivity and selectivity for early tumor detection, tumor-marker profiling and the monitoring of early treatment responses. 2) Develop novel drug-delivery systems for selective delivery of diagnostic and therapeutic agents to the disease sites. Nanometric drug carriers are designed for selective delivery of anticancer agents to the tumor to maximize their therapeutic efficacy and minimize their toxic side effects to normal tissue. The long-term goal of Dr. Li’s laboratory is to apply the “seek and treat” strategy in the development of targeted imaging/ therapeutic (theranostic) agents that will eventually be translated to the clinic to improve the management of cancer through early tumor detection and individualized therapy. A polymer-drug conjugate (PG-TXL) originated from his laboratory has advanced into clinical phase III trials studies. Dr. Li has more than 140 papers published in peer-reviewed journals, 28 patents (4 of which have been licensed), 1 edited book, and 14 book chapters.

Novel drug-delivery systems for selective delivery of diagnostic and therapeutic agents to the disease sites.

Michael Friebe has been involved in diagnostic imaging and image guided therapeutic products and services, as founder / innovator / CEO investor, and scientist. Dr. Friebe currently is a Board Member of two startup R&D companies, as well as investment partner of a medical technology startup-fund. Dr. Friebe is an affiliated professor with the chair for Computer Aided Medical Procedures (CAMP) at TU München, and full professor of Image Guided Therapies at the Ottovon- Guericke-University in Magdeburg, Germany. He is listed inventor of more than 60 patent applications and the author of numerous papers.

Prof Kalevi Kairemo graduated with a MSc(Eng) degree from Helsinki University of Technology in 1980 before undertaking medical training at the University of Helsinki. He undertook specialist training in Clinical Chemistry, Nuclear Medicine, Health Care Administration and Clinical Pharmacology at Helsinki University Central Hospital and then a post-doctoral research fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center from 1989-93. Prof Kairemo has held posts as Professor in Clinical Chemistry at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (1998-9), Professor in Nuclear Medicine at Uppsala University Hospital in Sweden (2001-5) and as Head of the Nuclear Medicine Division, Department of Oncology at Helsinki University Central Hospital (2004-9). Since 2009, he has worked at the Docrates Cancer Center in Helsinki. Recently he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the World Association of Radiopharmaceutical and Molecular Therapy (WARMTH). He has authored more than 200 original peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. Rathan M. Subramaniam is an Associate Professor in the Johns Hopkins Medicine Division of Nuclear Medicine within the Department of Radiology and Radiological Science. He also has appointments in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the Department of Oncology. An internationally recognized expert in quantitative molecular imaging with positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT), Dr. Subramaniam specializes in diagnostic radiology.He has published nearly 80 peer-reviewed articles, co-edited Novel Imaging Techniques in Neurodegenerative and Movement Disorders, An Issue of PET Clinics, 1e (The Clinics: Radiology) and authored PET/CT and PET/MRI in Oncology: A Practical Guide.A Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists, Dr. Subramaniam is American Board of Radiology-certified in neuroradiology and diagnostic radiology.

Rupan Sanyal is an Associate Professor and Diagnostic Radiologist at University of Alabama. He has been the editorial board member of American Journal of Roentgenology, Abdominal Imaging etc. and has authored 9 articles. Dr Mari Aparici, MD is an Associate Professor in Residence at UCSF. She is a Nuclear Physician with residencies in both Europe (Barcelona) and US (Stanford), and with Molecular imaging fellowships from Stanford University. She is a physician-scientist in the development of Molecular Imaging. She has about 20 years of clinical and research experience in the field, and 10 years of a leadership position as Chief Nuclear Medicine at the San Francisco VAMC as part of her faculty position at UCSF. She has published 100 papers in reputed journals and has been serving as an editorial board member of repute.

Bogusław Maciejewski has completed his PhD at the age of 32 years and scientific title of a full professor in radiotherapy being 45 years old. He realized research projects in the UCLA Los Angeles, Gray Lab London, MGH Harvard Univ. Boston, MDACC Houston and other cancer centers in Europe. He was the director of Cancer Center – Institute Gliwice, Poland for 24 years, till 2015. He is author of over 200 papers published in reputed journals (IF = 1650, citation index = 3500). He awarded G.F. Fletcher Gold Medal, Gold Medal of Life Achievements in Oncology given by all European oncologic societies as he is a honorary member of American College of Radiology, radiotherapy expert of the IAEA in Vienna and for 10 years he was a member of European Board of Radiotherapy participating in the development European curriculum for radiotherapy. His major scientic interest is importance of treatment time and tumor repopulation and altered dose fractionation in clinical radiotherapy for human tumors.

Raoul Saggini has graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1979, specializing in Orthopedics and Traumatology (1982), Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation (1985) at the University of Florence and “Sports Medicine” at the University “G. d’Annunzio”, Chieti, (1997). He is an ordinary University Professor in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitative in the University degli Studi G. D’Annunzio Chieti since 2003. He is the President of Physiotherapy degree course in the University of Medicine and Surgery of the University “G. D’Annunzio” in Chieti and currently the Director of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation service of ’University of Chieti by University Centre of Medicine of Sport University of Chieti and Director of the Postgraduate School of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, University “G. d’Annunzio” of Chieti. He is also the President of Faculty of Physiotherapy of University “G. d’Annunzio” of Chieti.
